Quality Education

One of the concerns that I have over education online and the traditional ground classes is whether or not students are actually receiving a quality education. Education should not simply equip students with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to instill the importance and drive for lifelong learning. A quality education must also equip students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in the selected degree discipline that will enable students to be successful in their chosen career path.

At some point in time, academia must begin focusing on whether or not students are actually learning to the point that they can demonstrate the ability to apply learning concepts, theories, terms, etc. to real world situations. True/false and multiple choice quizzes, exams, and tests may prove a student’s ability to remember. However, remembering is not enough! Students must be capable of actually demonstrating that they can apply the learned material to a real world situation.
